Jenny was born on November 11, 1925 in New Westminster, B.C. and as a young woman moved to Vancouver to become a seamstress. There she met and married her husband, Tom and later raised two children: Cameron and Kelly.
After Tom’s passing in 2002, Jenny moved into the basement suite of Kelly’s house in Burnaby and continued to live an active independent lifestyle: often walking long distances to shop for her groceries and maintaining her small garden of vegetables and a bed of her favourite flower, lilies of the valley. During her younger life, Jenny enjoyed many bus trips to Reno with various friends and family members. Jenny also cruised to Alaska with her brothers and sisters-in-law and in 2009 some very special memories were created during a family cruise to Alaska with her children and their families.
Jenny demonstrated her strength of will on a daily basis, but this was particularly evident later in life after being hit by a car while walking home with her groceries and then suffering through a debilitating bout of shingles which left her with postherpetic neuralgia in her face for many years. Jenny survived these life altering challenges with strength, grace and a contagious sense of humour and it is by these character traits that she will be remembered.
Jenny was preceded by husband Tom; brothers John (Bee) and George; and parents Quan Yuen Hoy (father) and Quan Chue Sue (mother).
Jenny will be very sadly missed by her: two children, Kelly (Dino) and Cameron (Alice); grandchildren Jared, Michael (Mandy), Brooklyn, Anthony (Manae) and Daniel; sisters-in-law, Janet, Nell, Marion and Vivian; and numerous nieces and nephews and their respective families.
Rather than a service, Kelly and Cameron ask that you observe and respect Jenny’s passing by taking a few moments to recall your own fond memories of her.
