It is with great sadness that the family of 陸遜貞 Susan Shun-Ching Ng announces her passing after a four year battle with cancer, on Sunday October 18, 2020, at the age of 69 years. Susan will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 43 years, Peter; her son Tony and daughter-in-law Jean, and grand-children Gavin and Julia. As the 10th sibling in a family of 10 children, Susan will also be fondly remembered by her siblings Shun Ping (predeceased) (Wing Kit), Man Shun (Kit Ping), Shun Hung (Ming Kong), Shun Chun (Siu Chung), Shun Ning (Kun Kwai), Wo Shun (Lydia), Kwoon Shun (Lucinda) and Ming Shun (Annie), her dear family of in-laws Yee Ben Ng, Evelyn (Robert), Helen (CC) and Cedric (Lucia), and her many loving nieces and nephews.
Susan lived a life of love and devotion to family, and of joy with her many friends and colleagues. Born in Hong Kong, she was a proud alumnus of Belilios Public School and Hong Kong University, where she formed lifelong friendships. She moved with Peter and Tony to Vancouver in 1984 to embark on a new adventure, including a long career in the UBC IT department. After her grandchildren were born, she devoted a great deal of time to help raise them, teaching the value of learning and of being a good human being (as well as wearing warm clothes). Even after her diagnosis of myeloma in 2017, despite the challenges of the many treatments, she never let such a speedbump change who she was. May it be showing her grandchildren around her birthplace of Hong Kong, hiking up the majestic Huangshan mountain faster than her friends, watching a Broadway show in New York, snorkeling in the tranquil waters of Hawaii, or beachcombing in Mexico, Susan lived life to the fullest and refused to be restricted by cancer.
She will be remembered for her constant generosity to her family and friends, always putting others before herself, and sharing her joy for life through her infectious smile. She was the one others turned to for help in times of Illness and need. When not looking after her grandchildren or traveling, you could find Susan tending to her garden, cooking up a storm at home, challenging others on the badminton court, hiking in the trails of local mountains, or being immersed in a book as she prepared for her book club.
A memorial service in honour of Susan will be held on Saturday November 7, 2020 at 10:30am, at Ocean View Funeral Home, by invitation only due to current health restrictions. For those who are unable to attend or are out of town, a live cast of the service will be available at https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/18862.
