Their love story is familiar to many. It began in the beautiful mountains of southern Italy in a lovely small town called Grimaldi. Sandra moved to Canada with her family first. Raffaele soon followed with the sole purpose of marrying his sweetheart. They both arrived in this unfamiliar land surrounded by people using an unfamiliar language, with minimal funds in their pockets and armed with nothing other than sheer determination to establish themselves and raise a family.
Sandra is predeceased by her older brother Franco and is now survived by her younger siblings Floriana (Elmiro) and Paul, her children Mary and Luigi (Louise), her six grandchildren, Dimitri, Tia (Michael), Raffaele, Nicola, Alessandro and Luca, and her two great grand-children Nicolas and Zoe, all of whom are quite moved by her passing.
She and her husband owned and operated a small corner grocery store in the heart of East Vancouver for more than 25 years. Although her family was her greatest joy, she often proudly noted, "You know, I used to be a postmaster!" After retiring from the business, Sandra could be found doing charity work in the form of making the best cappuccinos in the city at Villa Carital.
Family and friends are invited to attend a prayer service at St. Francis of Assisi, located at 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver BC on Monday, March 28th at 7:00 pm.
The funeral mass will also be held at St Francis of Assisi on Tuesday, March 29th at 11:00 am to be followed by the burial service at Ocean View Burial Park – South Mausoleum – West Side exterior, located at 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby.
Her extended family is thankful for the love provided to her by her other very caring family at Villa Carital.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that a donation be made by going to the website, The Centre for Research on Personhood in Dementia.
