It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend Ronald Edward Slavin. Ron was born on February 14, 1932 in Vancouver and passed away peacefully at Burnaby Hospital on April 10, 2009 with his wife at his side. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and May Slavin, sister Mary Margaret Wegner, daughter-in-law Roslynn Slavin and his cousin Charles Bonner. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy; children Brent Slavin (Katrina), Kelly Slavin (Keith) and Tony Slavin; grandchildren Robert, Stefan, Amanda, Christopher, Krisandra, Michael and Samantha; cousin Michael Buckley (Kim) of Ireland and other family and friends. Ron was a third generation funeral director and owner of Burnaby Funeral Directors and Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel. He will be remembered for his professionalism and compassion by the many families he served. He was proud to serve on the board of directors for the B.C. Funeral Service Association, the Canadian Independent Group of Funeral Homes and various other community groups including Kiwanis and the Heights Merchant Association. Ron was a Past Commander of the Burnaby Power Squadron and enjoyed spending time on the local waters fishing with his friends Ken Flekke and Jim McLennan. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. ' 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at St. Helen's Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby. Entombment to follow at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Ron's memory to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
