Petar died peacefully at Cottage Hospice on November 24 in Vancouver,BC at the age of 83.
Petar is survived by wife Danica children, Vesna (Ivica) and Ivan/John (Kristie); grandchildren Teresa (Dan), Katarina, Thomas, Christina, Avery, Katia and Luka. siblings, Ante in Croatia and Andjelka Kotarac (Srecko) in Mississauga and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Mate and Matija, siblings Jakov, Marijan, Ivan, Josip and Mila. Petar was born on March 10 in Cista Provo, Croatia to Mate and Matija Madunić. He left Croatia at the age of 18 to Austria through Slovenia.
After working in Germany for 2 years he made his way to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario through the Red Cross. He married Danica in 1963 in Thunder Bay. Over 55 years the couple welcomed two children and seven grandchildren into their home. His children remember him as a quiet and calm father who loved to make his own wine, putter around the garden.
Petar worked as a logger /faller for many years before earning his welding ticket 1962. He was an accomplished welder and pipefitter and was very proud of his chosen profession. He was a kind and loving individual who loved his family and who was passionate about his homeland. He was an active and dedicated member of the Croatian community.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday December 6th at 10:30AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Immaculate Heart of Mary at 3105 1st Ave East.
