Novelio Gubert emigrated from Italy at the tender age of eighteen when he boarded the Transatlantic ship Cristoforo Colombo on March 20, 1957, from Genova to New York. Landing March 26, 1957, in New York he headed the next day excited to join his brother Primo in Montreal. From then he quickly established himself in Sept-IIes, Quebec as a railway line maintainer.
While visiting family in Italy in 1967, he met his beloved wife, Loredana. Returning to Sept-IIes with his soon to be pregnant bride he realized his work schedule was not best for raising a family. He then decided to head west to Vancouver, British Columbia where his brother Gianni was living. Over the years he worked hard in the physically demanding work as a rebar ironworker.
His passions were many, from growing the biggest tomatoes, making wine, going fishing, hunting and mushroom picking, playing cards with family and friends, but most important to him was family. In particular, he loved all of his grandchildren; Joshua (Emily), Arianna (Michael), Sarah (Travis), Sienna, Nathan, and his great grandson Remy. He was also very proud of his three sons Dennis (Isabella), Dario and Livio (Michelle).
Novelio genuinely cared for everyone in his life seeing the good in all and in turn he was well respected by all those that he met. He taught us so much about life from the value of sacrifice, working hard, putting the needs of others ahead of his own, patience and most importantly how to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
On behalf of our family, we thank you for your support and heartfelt condolences. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated and will be remembered.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Our Lady of Sorrows, 525 Slocan Street, Vancouver.
