Remembering Nick

Nick's generosity and welcoming nature were like a beacon of warmth to all who knew him. A friend not just in name but in spirit, Nick had an extraordinary way of making everyone around him feel special and included.

I will forever cherish the memories of our dim sum outings, where Nick would regale us with his cruise ship stories. Nick's passion for sharing and his joy in the simple pleasures of life were inspiring. 

As I reflect on the time we spent together, I am filled with gratitude for having known Nick. His legacy will live on in the stories he told, the smiles he shared, and the friendships he nurtured.

Nick, I will miss you dearly.  Rest in peace, dear friend.

So many good memories over the years, it's taken a while for me to gather my thoughts. From the annual parades all over the Lower Mainland to the Halloween costume parades in the office to so many Helping Hands fundraising events, Corporate Olympics go-karting... always so quick and steadfastly reliable to volunteer your time and talents. You're missed Nicky, and never forgotten.

I met Nick through meetup and have shared several meals with him. My fondest memory of him was when he was telling us about a portable battery-powered power wash that he had purchased along  with an attachment that allowed you to attach a 2L pop bottle to it. He had explained to us that this device was perfect for cleaning your bathroom because it offered about 15 minutes of cleaning on a single charge. At first we were all surprised by this because why would anyone need a power wash to clean their bathroom. Curiosity  eventually got the best of me and I purchased the same power wash and attempted to clean my bathroom with it. It was excessive and I got water everywhere but I will always remember this moment because Nick, being the genuinely helpful person that he was, had put this idea into my head. My deepest condolences to his family for he will be greatly missed.  

I didn’t know Nic on a personal level but it was a pleasure to share dim sum with him at meetups.  He loved food and shared his enthusiasm.  It is always fun to have someone like that to dine with.  His familiar face will be missed.

My condolences to Nick's family and friends. I knew Nic from Meetup and he was always so helpful. He supported my group without being asked. I distinctly remember enjoying him bringing an entire bench so that multiple people could sit down in our lineup for a buffet. He was a kind soul.

I'm very sad to hear of Nick's passing.  I met him several times for dim sum, brunch and dinner.  He was always so kind, generous with his time, helpful, supportive and a true gentleman.  He was very active on meetup and was a great dim sum host as well as being very knowledgeable about the best places in Vancouver to dine.  He knew many topics and would frequently speak of them. He was very inclusive and welcomed everyone who came out. My condolences to his family and friends. I will miss him and his genuine enjoyment of people.

My condolences to the family and friends of Nic. You were truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed in the meetup world. Eat lots in heaven Nic. I’m sure you will host many a fabulous dim sum event above the clouds 

My deepest condolences and sympathies to his family and friends. Like others, I knew Nic through meetups and in particular, dim sum.  He was a welcoming and genuine host, who cared about the dining experiences of others at the table— he would ensure everyone ate a fair portion, keeping the meal on budget and most of all, he made sure everyone enjoyed the food that we shared eating.  
He would tease me about  arriving way earlier than the aforementioned meetup start time, but he understood that I took transit and that i gave myself extra time to make the commute.  Your genuineness will be never forgotten and you will be forever missed my friend.  

Condolences.   I have known Nic for many years through Meetup.  He came to many of my dim sum and Chinese New Year events.  He was always ready with his 3 knives to cut up the food and keep the cost low.  He always knew the best places to go.  He and I were planning to do a king crab dinner.  I feel sad and surprised at his passing.   He went suddenly so there was no time to say goodbye.  I remember he brought back fortune cookies for me from San Francisco.  He loved going on weekend cruises.  He will be missed.

My condolences to his family and friends.  So many were touched personally by his generosity and good will: a common thread running through these remembrances. I knew Nic through Meetup. I used to tease him about his leaf blowers and at one point he actually brought them to an event and afterwards we went outside for me to try them out. He always went the extra mile. He was the consummate host and friend, forever anticipating the numerous ways to make everyone's experience a memorable one. I miss him.

Sorry to hear Nic’s passing. We were friends and fellow organizers for Vancouver Dim Sum Meetup group and shared numerous meals together. 

I am hosting a dim sum gathering in Nic’s honor next month with many people interested in attending to share our memories. I think he would have liked that very much.

I’m saddened to hear of Nick’s passing. As many have previously mentioned, Nick was a remarkable man and gave so much as a colleague. His generosity of time will always resonate with me. My sincere condolences to Nicks friends and family. 

I was deeply saddened and shocked to learn of Nick's passing.  It is truly heartbreaking to lose someone so kind, helpful and generous with their time and talents.

Nick was a remarkable human being whose presence brightened our workplace.  I remember he went out of his way to drive me home after work when I first joined WorkSafe and was still new to the area.  I learnt something new whenever we caught up.

Nicky was a friendly face and helpful IT resource from my first days at WorkSafeBC in 1992 and for many years since. Everything everyone  said about his generous spirit, honest personal interest and desire to help is exactly what I found, too. 
I will miss him, and have heartfelt sympathy for his many friends and family.

Nicky was always there for all of us, there is not one event he did not volunteer or did not offer his insight and knowledge and help to any question that any of us asked. It is a big loss to us all, we will miss him dearly. 

My sincere condolences for Nick's family and friends. I enjoyed knowing Nick through our interactions at work. He was a wealth of information and so generous with his time and talents. We benefitted from his generosity many times at our family's Magical Evening fundraising events. He will be remembered fondly by us. 

I'm sad to hear of Nick's passing.  He was a lovely man, and I would often see him walking quickly through the halls with his camera in hand.  He was so generous with his time and talents.  



I knew Nick much before I worked with him through our daily evening Coffee sessions where we spoke about everything from household tools to outdoor adventures. While I was looking for a house, Nick was my guide to everything BC, he knew the lands like no other. 
His passing was a shock, and he will be deeply missed.

I am shocked and saddened by Nicki's passing. I worked with him, off and on over the years at WorkSafeBC. He was always generous in providing his photographic skills in support of the efforts of the Toastmasters Club and other events connected to the organization. I enjoyed viewing his photographs from events around the lower mainland.  My thoughts go out to his family.

I am saddened by the unexpected passing of Nick Lum, whom I have known since he started work at WorkSafeBC. Nick was not only kind and generous, but he would always go above and beyond to lend a helping hand. His passion for photography was evident, and he made significant contributions to WorkSafeBC's social clubs and events. Nick brought laughter and countless smiles to so many of us!

I extend my sincerest condolences to Nick's family during this difficult time, and I hope that he finds eternal peace.

I'm saddened to hear of Nick's passing & will always treasure the memories we made together as part of the social club.  This kind, charasmatic, generous & thoughtful soul would go above & beyond any expectations to do whatever he can for anyone.  He was relentless in sharing whatever time he had, his wisdom, devotion & would always add his special touch to the annual Children's Christmas party.  We will miss you Nicky & may you rest well my friend.

Nick was always helping and supporting every one of his coworkers. He always volunteered to take the Christmas photos of the kids and their families at the WorkSafeBC children's Christmas party.  Nick took it upon himself to print all the photos and share with employees. He put so many smiles on the faces of his friends and coworkers over the years.

Nick was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.

Always smiling, always welcoming, always willing to help.  I will miss you Nick on my visits to the Worksafe office.   Taken from us way to young.   Rest in Peace my friend, you will never be forgotten.

June 2022 a Thai food meet with Nick. At this point i haven’t seen Nick in over a decade, but he recognized me. We connected over work and photography.

Nick was the photographer at my wedding and few other events. He loved his gadgets and gizmos,  If you asked Nick about rechargeable batteries he would give you 2 reviews and 3 retail outlets! 

When I see a person wearing a ball cap and a backpack my thoughts automatically go to Nick. 
Rest well my friend, you are missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Nicky Lum. Nicky was always such a kind, helpful person, and it's hard to imagine our workplace without him. I will always remember the many times we went to lunch together. 

Nicky will be greatly missed, but his memory and the positive impact he had on so many people will live on.
