Nancy was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and grew up in Victoria BC. Nancy is pre-deceased by her husband of 50 years, Rom Gobis and her brother, Jim Stephenson. Nancy and Rom have 2 daughters, Natalie (Michael) and Barbara (Brian) and 4 beloved grandsons, Matthew, Evan, Carson and Drew. Other surviving family members include Jim’s wife, Eileen Stephenson, and their children David (Lisa) and Tim.
Nancy lived a life full of music, friends and community service. An accomplished music teacher, Nancy also had unique gifts for piano performance, leadership in the arts and social interactions with others. Nancy’s efforts in the arts touched the lives of thousands of people including her students, established performing artists and fellow music lovers. For decades, Nancy was involved with the Burnaby Clef Society, the Burnaby Arts Council and the Vancouver Women’s Musical Society. In 1996 the Mayor of Burnaby referred to Nancy as “Burnaby’s Cultural Princess” as she received a Burnaby Business and the Arts Award for Individual Leadership.
All are welcome to join the family at a Celebration of Nancy’s Life on Sunday January 22, 2017 from 1-3pm at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts (Studio 103), 6450 Deer Lake Avenue, Burnaby.
