Mariano Defazio

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and husband Mariano (Mario) Defazio who passed away peacefully in the morning of July 14, 2020. He was predeceased by his brother Armando Defazio, his sisters Filomena Cupelli, Ida Villella and Sylvia Defazio.

He is survived by his loving family, wife Maria Defazio, Son Tony DeFazio and wife Debby; Daughter Joanne Alves and husband Lino.

His grandchildren were such a joy in his life, he loved them all dearly and held a special place in his heart for each of them. By name they are Matthew Defazio, Michael Alves, Jenna Ratcliffe and husband Jordan, Christa Defazio, Anthony Defazio, Kevin Alves and Mirella Defazio.

He was blessed also to have seen the birth of his great grandchild, Liam Ratcliffe last year who brought such joy and gladness to dad’s day.

Dad was an incredible man, he loved unselfishly, and was a kind, gentle and companionate. He was the glue and peace maker that kept all our connections with friends and family together with his regular daily calls to everyone just to see how they were.

He also loved God, and turned to his faith often which gave him strength to battle through the countless years of pain and challenges to get through another day in a wheelchair and with many ongoing illnesses.

He will be missed greatly, but we rejoice that he is free of his pain and in a place where there is no more tears and no more pain.

The Family has requested that in lieu of flowers can make donations to the MS Society. We encourage you to leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Mariano Defazio to pay them a last tribute.

Viewing will be held on Monday, July 20th 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel (4276 Hastings St, Burnaby, BC V5C 2J6).

Unfortunately the Funeral Mass will be private and by invitation only.
