Man-Yin Chan

Man-Yin Chan was born on July 18, 1920 in the Ye Village of Laiyang, Shandong, China. He was the fourth out of six siblings. Since his early days, he was bright, honest and kind, and was loved by his parents. They nurtured him to become a motivated person; a Shandong man with an exploratory spirit.

In 1947, Man-Yin Chan and Choi-Wan Lee were wed in Qingdao, Shandong, and later moved to Shanghai. It was there that our father began working in a reputable bank. During those days he honed his business skills and developed his interest in entrepreneurial ventures.

In 1950, in order to escape political turmoil in China, our parents moved their family to settle in Hong Kong. Since our mother was a dedicated Christian, our father was moved by the Holy Spirit and came to know Christ. By the grace of God, he was baptized by Pastor Che on May 29th, 1955 and began attending Tsuen Wan Grace Lutheran Church.

The couple labored and worked diligently to raise their 10 children, nurturing a large, happy, and blessed family. Later, with his hard work and perseverance, our father successfully opened his very own plastic factory.

In 1981, in order to provide better education and opportunities for his younger children, our father once again embodied the spirit of the adventurous man from Shandong and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada with his family.

He enjoyed and grew to love the quiet and comfortable Vancouver lifestyle. Although he developed Alzheimer’s disease in his later years, he was able to maintain good health through the loving care of his wife and developed an optimistic attitude towards life. He was also able to enjoy spending quality and joyful time with his children and grandchildren.

On May 23rd, 2016, Man-Yin Chan was received by our merciful God peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, having lived his 98 years to the fullest.

Father: All these years, from Shandong, to Shanghai, to Hong Kong, to Vancouver, and finally to Heaven, you lived a wonderful and illustrious 98 years. As your children, we do miss you, yet we are grateful to God. We firmly believe that you will live happily and peacefully in Heaven.

Father: We love you! Rest in peace!

Father: Your ever loving smile, your disciplined teachings, your earnest encouragement, your steadfastness in your beliefs, your honest and kind personality, your willingness to help others, your cheerful laughter, your homemade dumplings, steamed buns, and noodles, and your unique Shandong/Shanghai accented Cantonese … all these things will forever remain in our loving memories.

Father: We are eternally grateful to you for nuturing us. We will miss you and will forever remember you!
