Mabel Victoria Hives (Nesbitt) passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on January 7, 2024 at Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre with loving family there to support her in her final journey. Mabel was compassionately cared for by the staff in Cascades and the family is very grateful to everyone. Mabel will be lovingly remembered as a caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
Mabel was born September 29, 1929 in Kelowna, BC to Vincent and Margarete Nesbitt and was the second of four children. She loved her older sister and two younger brothers. As a young teen Mabel moved to Burnaby, BC with her sister June. They worked alongside each other at the West Coast Woolen Mill in Vancouver where Mabel operated the looms. In 1954, Mabel married Richard Hives and they were together for 38 years until his passing in April 1993. Mabel devoted much of her life to caring for her four children with unwavering love and support. In the mid-1970s she returned to the workforce at East-West Distributors Ltd. and later Treasure Mart Ltd. where she enjoyed working in the warehouse.
Over the years Mabel and Richard loved camping throughout BC with their family. They were frequently joined by her sister June and husband Clarence Plumb. In later years, Mabel travelled with her children and grandchildren, making wonderful memories. Mabel had many hobbies and took great pride in tending to her beautiful rose and vegetable gardens. Mabel loved to sew and knit and made many lovely items for family and friends. In her later years, she started building jigsaw puzzles which she framed and proudly displayed in her home.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband Richard Hives, parents Margarete Nesbitt and Vincent Nesbitt, brothers Bob (Lynn) Nesbitt and Arthur (Marlene) Nesbitt, brother-in-law Clarence Plumb, sisters-in-law Catherine (Roy) Korness and Doreen (Sidney) Cohen.
Mabel is survived by her sister June Plumb, her loving children, sons Edward (Linda), Maurice (Sharon), Brian (Debbie), daughter Karen; nine grandchildren Christopher (Kristin), Ryan (Ashley), Kathy, Tom, Nicole (Nico), Zoe, Leisha (Dillon), Kyle, Ashlee; and three great-grandchildren Brody, Mirabelle and Cooper. Mabel will be missed by all who knew her.
