Lydia Oi Ling Yeung was born to a wealthy family in Shanghai, China on April 18, 1924. She was the youngest of four children, growing up with one brother and two sisters. In the 1940s, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Joseph University, an admirably uncommon accomplishment for a woman at the time.
After university, she went on to marry her first husband and had four children. She later moved to Hong Kong, where she met the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life, her husband Tak Shun Pong. She supported her husband at home and at work, assuming an accounting role at his business until their retirement in 1989. In the early 1990s, they immigrated to Canada where they would spend the remainder of their years with their children and grandchildren.
Lydia passed away peacefully in her home of residence in Richmond, British Columbia on November 14, 2015. She is survived by her children and grandchildren.
Lydia’s positive outlook on life and her kindness to family and friends will remain in our hearts. She will forever be remembered for her compassion and independence
