It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Loy Sing Wong, a true hero, community stalwart, and beloved patriarch, on November 24, 2023. Gong Gong departed this world surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of courage, selflessness, and a profound commitment to community service.
Born on January 1, 1938, Gong Gong lived through a tumultuous chapter in history, serving as a reserve military officer in China during the Japanese invasion. In an extraordinary display of bravery, he dedicated himself to helping villagers escape the clutches of Japanese soldiers, embodying the spirit of heroism that defined his character.
Gong Gong later continued his legacy of service in Vancouver, where he became an integral part of the community. His involvement in the Wong's Association exemplified his dedication to fostering unity and support within the Chinese-Canadian community. Gong Gong devoted countless hours as a volunteer, contributing to the well-being of others and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he served.
An accomplished martial artist, Gong Gong shared his passion for kung fu, drumming, and lion dancing with the community, enriching the lives of many. His teachings went beyond physical skills, instilling discipline, resilience, and a sense of cultural pride in those fortunate enough to learn from him.
Gong Gong is survived by Bing Wong, Lisa Wong, Amy Wong and Benny Wong, who will forever cherish the memories of a man whose life was defined by bravery, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
A memorial service to celebrate the extraordinary life of Loy Sing Wong will be held on Sunday December 10th, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to Hoy Ping Benevolent Association, reflecting Gong Gong 's lifelong dedication to community service.
