Patrick was born on October 14, 1933 to Tam Ying Chiu, Gabriel and Leung Lan Fan, Maria in Hong Kong. His parents adored their only child and his grandmother lavished much attention on him. He attended Wah Yan College and represented the school on their basketball team.
As a young man, he traveled to Nauru to work as a customs officer for the Australian Government. His next venture was to Japan where he met Junko during the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. They returned to Hong Kong to start their married lives and family.
He began his long career as an entrepreneur in the textile industry in Taiwan and Hong Kong. His experience led him to being appointed to the Hong Kong’s Textile Board. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively and made long-lasting friendships around the world. He valued those friendships immensely and hosted many gatherings at home.
Patrick loved golf and played regularly with his group of buddies. He excelled in his short game and was overjoyed that he scored his “hole-in-one” on the 16th hole of Old Course, Fanling. He passed on his passion for golf to his grandchildren.
Never to raise his voice or expressed anger, he always had a warm smile & welcoming demeanor as a devoted husband to his wife, loving father to his two daughters & sons-in-laws and adoring grandfather to his four grandchildren. He imparted his kindness and good manners to all those who crossed his path.
During the last few years of his life, he battled his illness with grace and incredible will power. His doctors were amazed at his resilience and determination.
We will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.
