Lois passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5, 2024. Born on September 27, 1933, in Saskatoon, SK to Winnifred and Everett Elder, Lois grew up in the Point Grey neighbourhood of Vancouver, B.C alongside her brothers Lorne and Gail. She graduated from Lord Byng high school and studied agricultural science at UBC before marrying Edwin Hardy on the first day of spring in 1954. Ed and Lois had three daughters they raised in a house they built in North Vancouver. As her children grew older, Lois enjoyed a professional career at Kodak Canada, retiring in the 1980s.
Together, Ed and Lois created beautiful flower and vegetable gardens at all of their homes and in community garden plots. They travelled extensively, visiting Hawaii, China, Cuba and Europe, and spent time in the UK walking Kew Gardens. They were loving and involved grandparents to their four grandchildren. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Ed’s passing in 2016.
Lois was an avid reader, particularly of Canadian literature, a crossword pro, and a passionate thrift store shopper, dressing up her family in her finds.
Lois was cared for in her final years by her daughter, Lynn. She leaves behind her daughters, Lynn (Al), Jane (Dave) and Barbara (Bob), her brother Gail (Brenda) and grandchildren Jessica, David (Shayla) and Ellen (Cam) as well as nieces Holly, Jennifer, Elena and nephews David, Krispen, Christopher, Jeremy, and many grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed, her brother Lorne, and her granddaughter Aven. No service by request.
