Born in Taiwan on May 15th, 1968, Lisa grew up the youngest of four children, with an older brother and two older sisters. Her parents, Benjamin Chang, an electrical engineer, and Po Sin, a homemaker, crossed the ocean with their family of six, immigrating to Canada in 1977 to settle in British Columbia.
In her teens, Lisa grew up in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Surrey. She lived and worked in Vancouver, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, as a singer, model, flight attendant, makeup artist, and as a pop star in the 1990s with television appearances, as well as songs and videos that topped the charts across Asia.
While we grieve her loss, we are reminded that Lisa lived a full life. She realized what it meant to be human, with a complete range of experiences. She laughed, sang, and danced throughout her youth and into her last days - loving the arts, especially music, and being deeply spiritual. Lisa was gifted and empathic, which made her highly engaging and a brilliant storyteller. She felt the depths and heights of pain and happiness in full measure and lived in the limelight as well as in the shadows. Lisa was lucky enough to know the enduring love of family, friends, and partners throughout life. Like all of us, she might have experienced loneliness, but she was never truly alone.
Lisa was predeceased by her father, brother Wen Kai, and sister Julia. She is survived by her mother (97), her sister Arabella (63), and her fur babies, Cocoa, Micca, and Ruby.
A service to commemorate the beauty and magic of Lisa will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 27th at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street Burnaby, BC. A viewing, for those who would like to see her, will be held the evening before at the same location on Thursday, May 26th between 7-9pm.
