Linda Hungson Ford passed away peacefully on 3rd May 2023 in the company of her family.
Linda was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in February 1956. She was the fourth child of Victor and Mabel Ching and was the youngest sister to Maureen, Loraine and Alan.
After completing her schooling, Linda furthered her studies in Medical Technology and became a laboratory technologist involved with analyzing blood pathology. After a few years she changed careers and joined Human Resources at a major bank, where she was a manager.
Linda married Roderick Hungson Ford in 1977 and they were a couple very much in love. Their daughter Nicole was a welcome addition to their family. In 1996 Roderick tragically passed away after suffering fatal injuries during a robbery of his business.
Following Roderick’s death, Linda and Nicole immigrated to Vancouver in 1998 to make a fresh start. Linda joined a newsprint company, where she happily worked for over 20 years until her retirement in 2021. Throughout her time at the company, Linda’s kind, warm, friendly and sincere nature won her friends for life. They were loyal and true to the very end. Whether through her great sense of humour or superb baking skills, she always left a lasting impression and touched people’s lives in one way or the other.
In 2020 Linda was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout her illness, she remained hopeful, resilient, determined and strong willed to live her life despite the grim prognosis she was given. She bravely endured grueling cancer treatment and was a fighter to the very end. In her last days, she was comfortable and not in pain.
Always generous with her time, Linda loved to host family and friends in her home and was known to be an excellent and adventurous cook and baker. In her early teens, she mastered the art of making choux pastry and continued on to bake pavlovas, Danish pastries, muffins, cinnamon buns … even Black Forest cakes. Her generous, kind and thoughtful nature resulted in many having sampled her delicious cakes and cooking. Known for her efficiency in the kitchen, punctuality for lunch or dinner was always taken seriously!
The greatest legacy that Linda imparts to her family and friends is that she was a role model for living a life with strength, determination, perseverance, kindness, and devotion to serve and shower her family with unconditional love. This is Linda’s ultimate legacy to her daughter, which will live on from generation to generation.
While Linda faced and overcame many life challenges, she never complained. She was independent, kind, generous, courageous, thoughtful and welcoming, but most of all she was a loving daughter, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, grandaunt and friend. She is an extraordinary soul who touched our lives in many ways, leaving behind precious memories that will long be remembered. She will be sorely and deeply missed by her daughter Nicole; son-in-law Joel; granddaughters Danique and Annaëlle; mother Mabel; siblings Maureen, Loraine and Alan; brother in-laws Raymond and Keith; sister-in-law Miranda; nephew Jared; nieces Tracey, Shannan, Meryl and Carina; niece-in-laws Lisa and Katie; nephew-in-laws Boris, Shawn and Tom; grandnieces: Sienna, Lucille and Phoebe; grandnephew Shai, and dearest friends Bal, Yvonne and Rosie.
