It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lewis Len Kong Lim (林連鑛), a beloved husband, father, and businessman. Mr. Lim passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022 in Vancouver BC at the age of 95.
Mr. Lim is survived by his wife, Kwan Sau Kuen; his four children and their spouses: Rowena and Brent, Danny and Scarlett, Kathy and Darwin, and Candy and Peter; his seven grandchildren, Julia, Andy, Andrew, Nathan, Julian, Spencer, and Lauren; and his many extended family members.
Born in China in 1927, Mr. Lim was a lifelong learner and a hardworking father who faced many challenges throughout his life.
After graduating from university in China in the 1950s, Mr. Lim was sent to the countryside in the government's forced land reform program. However, he never lost sight of his dreams, so after he met the love of his life, Kwan Sau Kuen, they emigrated to Hong Kong shortly thereafter, where they married. Mr. Lim continued to study in English and proudly obtained his high school proficiency certificate. With that he was able to obtain a job as merchandising inspector for a German company.
In the 1960s, with the help of his brother George, Mr. Lim started a small factory in Hong Kong. Through years of hard work and perseverance, and with the help of his wife, he developed the factory into a successful business that expanded and grew, and ultimately supplied some of the largest companies in the world. The business continues, now being run by his son.
In the 1990s, Mr. Lim retired and joined his daughters in Vancouver, Canada. In Vancouver he embraced new experiences and opportunities, learning to play golf, gardening, and traveling the world with his children. He had a keen interest in world politics, from the nuances of the US Electoral College, to the dynamics between the West and China. Mr. Lim kept up to date with technology and followed the latest trends, even TikTok, to his final days.
Mr. Lim's passing is a great loss to his family and friends. Throughout his life he never forgot his roots; he continued to support his ancestral village, donating significantly to the construction of a new school there and employing many relatives in his business. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his determination to succeed, his love for his family, and his encouragement for his children to pursue their goals. He lived a full and meaningful life and will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Mr. Lim.
