Leah Lida, affectionately known as Mimi, passed away at St. Michael's Hospice after a long battle with cancer. Born to Ambrosio and Rosalina Lida on November 22, 1956 in Iloilo City, Philippines. Leah is cherished by her family and a beacon of kindness and care throughout her 67 years. Leah's life is one of service and love. Beginning with her education at Iloilo Central Elementary School, University of San Agustin High School graduating in 1973 and continuing to study nursing at the same University. In 1976 , Leah immigrated to Vancouver, BC Canada through the sponsorship of her Aunt Luz Lida, and continued her education and worked for a while as a key punch operator. She then worked at Shaughnessy Hospital and at BC Children's Hospital in the Admission Section, where she touched the lives of countless individuals with her compassion and dedication. During her leisure time, she would play bowling with her siblings and bunch of friends. She also enjoyed watching movies and her favorite TV shows. Back in the Philippines, Leah was an avid fan of Ms. Nora Aunor and considered all her movies to be a must-see movies . Leah was also a dedicated member and an officer of the Circulo Ilonggo Association of British Columbia where she built long lasting friendships.
Predeceased by her father Ambrosio, sister Eppie (Watson), aunts Agapita Lida (Jaudines), Milagros Lida (Tan) and Luz Lida, Corazon Palma (Lucasan), uncles Ernesto Palma Sr. Montano Palma Jr. Gerardo Palma. Grandparents Domingo Lida Sr. and Fortunata Lida (Teruel), Montano Palma Sr. and Rosalia Palma (Hontiveros).
Leah's memory will be honored and kept alive by her loving mother Rosalina, surviving brothers Nilo (Anita) and Domingo (Virginia) , sisters Jean Lida-Aquino and Melly Lida and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and their children.
The Lida family would like to thank the wonderful staff of St. Michael’s Hospice Centre in Burnaby, BC, for all the care and support.
Leah will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, sister in law, cousin and friend. Her spirit of generosity and care will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough.
An evening prayer service for Leah will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home – Chapel 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, BC
A Mass of Catholic Burial will occur Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, 7455 10th Ave, Burnaby, BC
Serving as pallbearers will be Leah’s brothers Nilo Lida and Domingo Lida, Nephews Kristopher Lida, Darren Lida, Daniel Watson and Justin Watson.
The burial internment will occur Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 12:45 PM to 2:15 PM, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park “Southview” 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, BC
A reception will follow on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home – Reception Lounge - 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, BC
