Lai Yeung was born in Hoi Ping Guang Dong, China in the year 1930. She worked as a seamstress in Hong Kong, until she emigrated to Canada in November 1964 with Harvey, her eldest child, to join her husband who emigrated 12 years earlier and settled in Port Alberni, BC. The family welcomed three additional members in 1965, 1967, 1968. As a housewife, she raised her four children with her husband. The family moved to Vancouver in 1973. Shortly thereafter, she started working for the Canadian Fishing Company until her retirement in 1995.
Until her health condition made it impossible, Lai Yeung was enjoying her retirement – spending time with family, socializing, with friends, having coffee and enjoying many rounds of mah-jong with them. She had no formal education but through her own determination, she learned to read and write Chinese, and spoke basic English.
Lai Yeung is survived by her sons, Harvey Quan (Shirley) and Harold Quan (Ann); daughters, Holly Quan Sigler (Rob Sigler) and Hannah Quan Dubuc; grandsons, Bryan Quan (Carrie) and Alex Quan (Fiancée Sheri Chan); granddaughters, Nicola Quan (Tom Song), Geneviève Dubuc, and Cassandra Dubuc; three great-grandsons, Greyson Song, Noah Quan, and Oliver Quan; and one great-granddaughter (Harper Song).
