Mr. Kay Mau (Stephen) Chan passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Home on November 10, 2023, in Burnaby, British Columbia at the age of 87.
Born on November 8, 1936 to Po Yuk Siu and Sic Yam Chan, in Hong Kong, the second of 8 children. He was raised in Hong Kong, had a penchant for basketball, loved swimming, and graduated from the prestigious University of Hong Kong.
Kay Mau was a very savvy and successful businessman who was a pioneer at his time, being one of the first Chinese Canadians to open a business with his wife, called Hong Kong Trading, Ltd. in Chinatown, Vancouver, B.C. in the early 80's. He also discovered imports from Singapore and Malaysia and introduced the popular mango gummy candy to Canada. He officially retired in June 2022.
Kay Mau Chan married Mee Ping Wong on December 6, 1962, and enjoyed 51 years of marriage together.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mee Ping Chan; daughters: Anita Chan (husband Wei-Yun Tan, grandson Julien Tan), Alice Chan (husband James Edgar, grandsons James and Adrian Edgar), and Amy Chan; siblings: Arthur Chan (Ann), Nancy Leong (Arthur), Joseph Chan (Lisa) and Albert Chan (Celia); and sisters in law Rosita Chan and Cindy Chan.
He is predeceased by his siblings Thomas (Rosita), Helen, and Quentin (Cindy), and sister in law, Ann.

A visitation for Kay Mau will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC V5J1A4. A funeral service will occur Monday, December 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Ocean View’s chapel at the same location, followed by a committal service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ocean View Burial Park.
