Mrs. Jun-Ing Ou-Yang was born in 1908 in You County of Hunan province in China
Under traditional Chinese marriage customs, at the age of 21 she married husband Mr. Ku Ou-Yang. In 1941 with Mr. Ou-Yang, she experienced the second world war, evading Japanese soldiers, protecting their children from danger, surviving the hard adventure. In 1949 she moved with her husband to Taiwan as the spouse of military personnel and settled down in Hualian. During the time in Hualian she supported her husband and raised four children, lived a simple life and helped her husband by maintaining a harmonious relationship, and integrated Hunan culture with their neighbors. In addition, she established a chicken farming business to help the family financially. She was also happy to help people and was elected as the leader of the small county. At the age of 55 she was elected as the Model Mother of the local society. All of her children( 3 daughters and 1 son, Shih Ou-Yang, Jane-Ling, Jane-Fong and Joanne) received an excellent education, graduated from universities, and some went abroad to U.S.A. or Canada for further studies, got married and established their own families. In 1980 she was sponsored by her daughter Jane-Ling to become a naturalized citizen of Canada. Later on she and her husband lived in the Oakridge area, at a BC Housing apartment for senior citizens and they enjoyed their independent living for more than 15 years there. In 2006 they were transferred to the SUCCESS Simons K. Y. Lee Senior Care Home in Vancouver’s Chinatown and lived a relatively healthy life. In 2004 and 2010 she was honored with the Exemplary Model Mother of the Year Award by the Chinese Benevolent Association of Canada. In June 2009 they celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary, and received congratulatory letters from Her Honor Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister of Canada and Premier of B.C. Province, just shortly before Mr. Ku Ou-Yang passed away. In February 2011 she accepted Jesus as her savior and was baptized by Pastor Ho and Pastor Hsu from The Evangelical Chinese Bible Church of Greater Vancouver, thanks to the church’s brothers and sisters for their care, love and prayers. The Lord took her to heaven peacefully on May 7th, 2012 at 12:00 a.m. She had a wonderful life of 104 years. She is survived by four children, their spouses, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jun-Ing Ou-Yang was born in an old society while foot bandaging was not totally abandoned. With her bound feet she was able to overcome all hardships, including many tumbles during the wars. Each and every one of the third and fourth generations has been taken care of by her. After the age of 78 she still traveled half a world’s distance to her children’s home to offer helps. Indeed she deserves to be praised as a true model mother and wife. All in all she was a decent human being who God has blessed with happiness and longevity. She gave her family her best love of all and taught her children by setting an example. She will be remembered by her descendants and friends with everlasting loving memories.
