(nee Whitehead)
December 17th, 1921 – January 28, 2011
“OUR MOTHER, OUR NANA, OUR GREAT NANNY, OUR FRIEND”
Joyce was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario to parents Ada Parkinson and
William Edgar Whitehead.
She moved out west to B.C. in 1952. Before moving she had two daughters,
Sharon and Wendy. The family eventually settled in South Burnaby and she had
two more daughters, Bonnie and Lauri.
For many years, she and her husband Angus operated their own Real Estate,
Construction and Mortgage Company. When that closed in the early 70’s, Joyce
went to work for Sears at the Elizabeth Arden Counter and later in Ladies Fashions.
She retired in the late 80’s.
Joyce loved spending time with her girls and their families, often joining in on
holiday getaways. She loved life and was always ready to join in on any activity,
especially a good card game. When she wasn’t with her family, she loved to play
Bingo and was known as a regular at many Bingo Halls in Burnaby and New
Westminster. In recent years, she spent countless days at the Boardwalk Gaming
Centre in Burnaby, where she made many good friends and absolutely loved to be
able to yell “BINGO”.
Joyce moved to the Mulberry in November, 2005. She loved her new home,
especially the meals, dessert being her favorite. (mmm Crème Brule) She was very
independent and looked so forward to playing poker, rummolli and crib with her new
found friends or tucked away in her chair cheering on the Canucks. She enjoyed
her life to the fullest and was often heard saying –
“I don’t know where I’m going when I’m gone, but I’ve got friends in both places”
Joyce is survived by her loving daughters and their families – Sharon (Doug
Hanzlick – Loomis, California) Wendy (Don Wormald – Canim Lake, B.C.)
Bonnie (Pogo Hannay – Vancouver, B.C.) & Lauri (Gary Yarrow, Chilliwack, B.C.)
11 Grand-children, 23 Great Grand-children and numerous Grand-pets!!!
“Think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much”
Our Mom was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her and will forever
be remembered as a strong, talented, independent lady. Thank-you Mom for
teaching us to love unconditionally and believe in ourselves.
FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS – WE LOVE YOU
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:30 - 4:00pm on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Centennial Lodge in Queen's Park, New Westminster...
