He was predeceased by his father Adriaan (2008), father-in-law Tadayuki (2002) and nephew Christopher (2002).
John will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Grace, mother Emma, sister Annie, brother Rob and his wife Paige, mother-in-law Fusae, sister-in-law Jenny, brother-in-law Peter, nieces Robyn and Addy and nephew Aiden, as well as numerous other relatives in Canada, United States, Netherlands, and Australia.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff in the palliative care unit at Abbotsford Regional Hospital for making John's final days as comfortable as possible. A special thank you to Dr. Gary Hayes for his friendship and caring for John the past 35 years.
A viewing will take place on October 15, 2020, at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the BC Cancer Agency.
