Jane Chow Eng, 82, from Burnaby, BC, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, surrounded by her children and all our love.
Born on February 23, 1941 to Wah Sing and Lai Yee Chow in Duncan, BC, Jane and her twin brother, Edgson, were the youngest of 8 children. Working in their family store from a young age gave Jane an incredible work ethic, one that she carried on into adulthood when she worked as a teller at the Royal Bank, and when she later dedicated herself to being our full-time mom.
Jane Chow met her future husband, Willie Eng, through friends, and after initially refusing to go out with him, she finally relented. It’s a good thing he was persistent, as dating soon turned to courtship, which soon turned into Willie asking for her hand in marriage. They were married on July 23, 1966 and set up their home in Victoria. They threw many parties, gave back by canvassing for the March of Dimes, and were active in the Victoria Chinatown Lions Club.
Everyone who met Jane was drawn to her generous and giving nature. Her radiant smile not only lit up every room but also extended a warm invitation to everyone she met. She was a mom, grandma, aunt, sister, daughter, and friend. She loved her family including all her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed bingo and excursions to the casino, but mostly she loved gathering with her family and friends for food, games, and company. Every get together was filled with love and laughter.
Jane is now reunited with her beloved husband, Willie, her parents, Wah Sing and Lai Yee, and siblings, Edward, Gini, and Effie. She leaves behind cherished memories with her surviving siblings - Edmund, Edwin, Viola, and Edgson; her three children, Daymon (Joanna), Fenton (Susie), and Lannette (Jak); and her six grandchildren, Talissa, Ethan, Hailey, Dylan, Kyle, and Carter.
Mom, we will miss you. You were the head of our family and always cheered us on for all of our endeavours. Through your example we learned unconditional love, acceptance, and that family (whether by blood or friendship) is everything. Thank you for showing us how to be the best we can be. Rest peacefully, Mom - your work here is done. We love you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Hospice, Burnaby, and The Kidney Foundation. A private small family gathering is being held to celebrate Jane.
