Passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on September 28th, 20l0, at the North Shore Kiwanis Care Centre after a valiant battle with Heart Disease. Irene will be deeply missed by her brother Roy Byers (Loreen), her sister Gloria Weston (Albert), sister-in-law Ruth Byers, and many nieces & nephews. She was a bright light and always had a ready smile which will be missed by so many. Mount Seymour was one of her loves and was where she met her special guy and husband Charlie. Their Cabin Skyline was a “Special Place” for them and they had many visitors on week-ends where Irene always managed to have a pie or two for those that dropped in. She loved to cook! Irene was very active in the Mount Seymour Ski Club and served for many years as Secretary. Irene was also Secretary of the Mount Seymour Park Promotional Committee in developing the Highway up the Mountain to the terminus at the present parking lot. Together Irene and Charlie operated their Wholesale Millinery Business on the corner of Water and Cambie streets, the home of the Steam Clock. Irene joined the Vancouver Rotary Woman’s Association in 1958 and served as President from 1961 to 1964. She was honoured by becoming an Honorary Life Member of the RWA for her dedication and for her work as a Director of Social Services. We want to thank the Staff at North Shore Kiwanis Care Centre for the incredible care and love that they gave Irene in her time of need. It really was appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Charity of your choice. There will be no service by request.
Arrangements under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Burnaby, BC.
