Nguyễn Văn Hiệp was born in Long Mỹ, Rạch Giá, South Vietnam, on June 20, 1938.
He was the ninth son in a family of eleven and ventured out from home at the age of thirteen.
It was in Saigon where he met Mom, Trinh Hiếu. They married in 1963 and were blessed with three sons: Đông - Phương - Hồng.
Our father/Grand Father graduated with honors in the 'Pastoral Guidance' field at Saigon University of Pedagogy (Đại Học Sư Phạm Sai Gon) and later became a professor at Pétrus Ký School (Trương Vĩnh Ký) in 1973.
In 1984, Dad transitioned his career, becoming a freelance photographer and cameraman, collaborating with United Association for Production of Radio and Television Sciences “Liên Hiệp Khoa Học Truyền Thanh Truyền Hình” in Ho Chi Minh City.
On November 20, 1989, he and our family departed from Vietnam to settle in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and later moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1997. We continue to reside there to this day. In retirement, our dad/grandfather found joy in gardening, fishing, and driving his four beloved grandchildren to school and taking care of them with all of his heart. At his free time, he would play the guitar and sing alone. In the evenings, if he wasn't watching his favorite action hero movies with us, he would spend time on the internet, sending emails and sharing news with acquaintances.
His legacy will forever echo the story of a charismatic and resilient man. He fearlessly led his family to a new country, sowing seeds of opportunity that will blossom across generations. His gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren were the pillars of his life.
His absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of his family and everyone privileged to have known him. Being held in our dad's love meant basking in the radiance of his pride and boundless affection.
Thank you, Dad, for taking such good care of our family and raising all of us to become fine individuals and great human beings. You are the greatest, embodying both qualities.
The Funeral Service for Dad will take place on Thursday, January 18th at 10 am, at Forest Lawn Chapel, 3789 Royal Oak. Burnaby, BC, V5G 3M1
