Born in Macau on July 12, 1942, the second of eight children, she helped take care of her younger siblings. This would be a legacy for her life as she loved to take care of her family and even sponsored several of her siblings to come to Canada. Although she was only 4'11" (150 cm), she was a high jumper in track and field during her high school years. After graduating, she became an elementary teacher.
At age 20, she moved to Canada and married Chung Wah in December, 1962. They lived in Port Alberni where she developed close friendships and was active in her local church, Elim Tabernacle. Not only did she regularly bring her children to church, she also invited and brought other relatives and friends. She was a homemaker, took care of her family and provided childcare for friends' children. She wanted her own children to succeed in education and did what she could to help...saved, sacrificed, and encouraged. She will be remembered for her determination, feistiness, strength and making and serving food whether you were hungry or not!
After her husband retired, they moved to Vancouver to be closer to family. She enjoyed meeting and talking to new people, got involved with the other seniors in the area, volunteered in activities, organized walking groups, and helped teach English as a second language at the South Vancouver Neighbourhood House. Hang Wah's volunteer services were greatly appreciated by many people who became her friends.
Hang Wah will be deeply missed by her husband Chung Wah, children Joel (Gigi), Colleen (Ian), Joseph (Maggie), her grandchildren Michaela (Mitch), Tao, Gabby, Joshua, and Brandon, and her siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
