Giancarlo Di Simo

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our dear Giancarlo. He was a loving Husband, Father, Brother, Zio and a very proud Nonno.

Giancarlo was born in the city of Lucca, Tuscany, in the small town of S. Alessio. He passed away peacefully in Burnaby, BC on Oct 28, 2024 at the age of 85.

Giancarlo is survived by his loving family; wife Giovanna of 60 years, daughter Isabella (Sean), son Riccardo , brother Marcello (Carla), grandson (Luca), sister in law Donatella (Franco predeceased), niece Monica (John), nephew Massimo (Doriana) and children, nephew Roberto (Sharon) and son. Sisters in law Biancarosa and Ariella and his nieces and nephew and extended family in Italy.

Giancarlo was a kind and loving man. He enjoyed spending time with his family in Canada and in his hometown in Italy. He was a very social man who had many friends, and made friends easily. He would stop to chat with anyone he would encounter, even if it was a simple trip to the grocery store. Once you had a good chat with him you instantly became a friend. He never missed an opportunity to go to a gathering big or small. He had a wonderful and infectious smile that made his eyes light up as though they were smiling as well. Most of his pastime was spent in his garden tending his roses which he loved, and his vegetable garden that he was so proud of, and on a hot summer day when he was ready to relax he could easily be found lying in the sun. Needless to say that he enjoyed good Italian food and plenty of his own home made wine, which he loved to share with many. He always kept himself busy fixing or creating things, usually out of stainless steel. Giancarlo definitely lived life to the fullest right until the very end. He will be so very sadly missed.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Helen’s Parish at 10:30am, Friday November 8th, 2024.
