CHUNG, Fung Ying (née Kwan) With deep sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on June 5, 2014, at the age of 88 (DOB November 30, 1926) in Burnaby, B.C.
Fung Ying was the daughter of the late May Sim Ho and Yun Tak Kwan from Guang Dong, China. She was married in Hong Kong in 1950 to her husband of 39 years, Fu Cheung Chung (deceased in July 1989). She was predeceased by her brother Chun Pang Kwan, and will be fondly remembered by her siblings, Chun Hung Kwan of Toronto, Ontario and Choi Yuk Kwan of Burnaby, B.C.
Fung Ying was a gentle woman with high respect for traditional Chinese values and Buddhist beliefs. She was a loving wife, a caring mother and the family’s graceful and peaceful matriarch for 25 years, following the passing of Fu Cheung. Fung Ying lived her early life in Hong Kong and moved to Canada in 1980, settling in Vancouver and moving to Burnaby in her later years. Many cross-country trips to Ontario were made to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Loving mother to the late Kenneth Ching Hung Chung (Flora) of Vancouver, B.C., Caroline Chin Ping Leung (Robert) of Vancouver, B.C., Betty Chin Oi Lee (Howard) of Cambridge, Ontario, Raymond Ching Yuen Chung (Josephine) of Toronto, Ontario, Justina Ching Ping Mok (Kenneth) of Vancouver, B.C., Angela Yuet Sim Leung (Desmond) of Vancouver, B.C., and Rose Yee Sau Wong (Kam To) of San Francisco, California.
She will be missed by her 13 grandchildren Stella Leung, Roberta Leung, Benjamin Chung, Joanna Chung (Andy Poon), Christopher Chung (Tinnie Cham), Adela Chung (William Lu), Janice Chung (George Leonard), Kevin Mok (Yvonne Kwan), Andrew Lee, Kay Leung (Mathieu Rondonneau); Donald Wong (Angela Duldulao), Jason Wong, and Joni Leung (Mark Louie).
Fung Ying was the proud great-grandmother of 10 children: Dylan, Timothy, Maia, Natasha, Brandon, Madeleine, Kaylee, Charlotte, Will, and Wyatt.
Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday June 23, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Chapel) 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, B.C. Cremation at on-site crematorium to follow service. Lunch at 1:00 p.m. at Po Kong Vegetarian Restaurant 1334 Kingsway (near Knight Street), Vancouver, B.C.
