Eva is survived by her daughter, Linda Brown, her son-in-law Graham and her granddaughter Dana, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Chan.
Eva was born on July 27, 1929 in Samarinda, Indonesia. She trained as a nurse and midwife. She worked for Nethersole Hospital in Hong Kong for many years until she emigrated to Canada in 1963. She married Lloyd George Chan, a geotechnical engineer for the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration for the Government of Canada, in October of 1963 and they lived in Saskatoon for the next 20 years. In 1965, Eva and Lloyd welcomed their only child, Linda.
Eva was a witty person whose quick comebacks and retorts did not leave her, even through the later years when she suffered from dementia. She was an active and dedicated member of the Saskatoon Chinese Alliance Church, where she embraced the young students from Hong Kong coming to Saskatoon to study at the University of Saskatchewan, often feeding them home-cooked Chinese meals. After moving to the Vancouver area in 1983, she was an active member of the Richmond Chinese Alliance Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gerald Yeung and all of the staff and volunteers at Simon KY Lee Seniors’ Care Home. The family would also like to particularly thank Ms. Elaine Fu for her incredible care of and dedication to Mom during the last few years.
A funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 18, 10 a.m. at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, with a reception to follow at Kirin Restaurant, Vancouver West, 555 West 12th Avenue, Vancouver. Pastor Andrew Cheung will officiate the ceremony.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eva’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Canadian Red Cross Society or World Vision Canada.
