Ed is greatly missed by his wife Jacqueline, his daughter Stella (Chris), his stepchildren, Heather, Cheryl, Davis (Kathy), his brother Ross and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. He is predeceased by his mother Esther, father Samuel and his son Eric.
Edward was born in Portland, Oregon. He served in the US Army then went on to obtain both a Bachelor of Arts Degree, as an English Major, and a Masters, in Librarianship, from the University of Washington. Ed worked at the University of Washington Library and then with Boeing in their research and development library. In 1970, Ed and his family moved to British Columbia where he was the Science Librarian at Simon Fraser University until retiring in 1993.
Being retired did not slow Ed down at all. His passion for music, literature, bicycle riding, photography, hiking, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, travel, food and wine and time with family and friends kept him happily occupied. Ed became an avid cyclist after buying his first bicycle at the age of 50. He belonged to the Vancouver Bicycle Club and later the Cross Canada Cyclists (CCC). He did bicycle trips in Canada, USA, France, Italy, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, and Mexico. He contributed to the administration of the CCC for many years and loved fixing and tinkering with bicycles in his spare time. Ed assembled a sound system, including components he built himself, that allowed hours of listening pleasure from a vast musical library he curated.
Both the Family Caregivers of BC and the Alzheimer's Society of BC provided key support that allowed Ed to remain at home where he was cared for by his loving wife. Both non-profit associations gratefully accept donations if anyone has a desire to honour and remember Ed in this way.
