January 24, 1932 – January 24, 2022
We were saddened and surprised to lose Dorothy on her 90th birthday. While she had been briefly hospitalized at Burnaby General Hospital, no one had expected her passing. Still, our grief is tempered by knowing she lived a full and interesting life. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Earl Haig Moodie, parents Weston and Bertha Cochrane, her sisters Leila Webb (Eddie, d.), Eleanor Amon (Gary), Shirley Breedon, brother Jack Cochrane, brother-in-law Bill Moodie (Bessie, d.), sister-in-law Jean Noble (Al, d.). She is remembered by her daughters Dawn Leslie (Scott), Pam Moodie (Sue), and son Douglas Moodie (Roxanne, d.), grandchildren Tammy Leslie-Fulton (Cameron) and Cara Leslie (Eric) and her sisters Jean Peacock (Ross, d.) and Marilyn Crosbie (Graham, d.) and brother Bill Cochrane (Marilyn), and her many nieces and nephews scattered across Canada.
Dorothy was, first and foremost, a family person. She delighted in weekend visits with her children, grandchildren, family and friends at the beautiful Bennett Lake cottage she and her family built. She loved and kept in touch with all her relations, by birth or by marriage, and relished any news of the township and community where she was raised. She was a kind, supportive and caring friend, described by many as being unfailingly non-judgmental and supportive. Dorothy made a lot of friends through a life of moving from one Canadian Armed Forces base to another and through the many jobs she had over those years. She was an avid card player to the very last, but she really enjoyed games of all kinds, especially curling which she had played for many years. In the early years of their marriage Dorothy travelled extensively in Europe with her husband and family and, in their retirement years, spent wonderful winters with their friends in Florida. In the last years of her life, she moved to B.C. where she made many new friends at her home in Seton Villa. We will all miss her very much.
Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband in Thornton Union Cemetery, Thornton, Ontario in a few months’ time. The family requests that any donations be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, MS Society, or the charity of your choosing.
