Dat Lim Chow

Victor is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Praise (Robertson) and Loyal (Crystal); and grandchildren, Alysha, Gabriel, Justin, Rachel. He is survived by his siblings and his many nieces and nephews from Victoria, Vancouver and China.

Victor was born on July 16,1940 in Canton Punyu, China to Mr. and Mrs. Chou Yu-Sing. Being the oldest son, he was sent to Hong Kong at the young age of 10 with the goal of immigrating to Canada for a better life for his family. He received primary education in Hong Kong until he turned 13 years old when he had to start working to provide for his family. At 17 years old, Victor was sponsored to immigrate to Victoria, BC, Canada where he worked in his great-uncles’ grocery stores by day and continued his education by night. After marriage to Frances, Victor opened his own grocery store called Vic’s Super Save. He achieved his family’s goal by sponsoring and supporting his parents, his younger brothers and sister to immigrate to Canada. He sold his store when he retired in 1992 and spent the rest of his years with Frances, traveling, serving his church, community and family.

Victor was a faithful Christian who loved God and his family. He was always seeking to help and serve in the community, driving young people and seniors to church, and served as a dedicated member of his local church as an elder, deacon, and treasurer. Victor persevered through a hard early life and was blessed to live a full abundant life devoted to caring for people and serving God. Victor and Frances had a very happy 47 year marriage, loved each other deeply, and served the Lord together with one heart. Victor will be remembered as a kind, hard-working, generous and gentle man who brought peace everywhere he went. He is now at peace with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 11am Saturday, September 17th at Living Word Chinese Baptist Church (2105 33 Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6M 1B8), with a lunch reception to follow at Golden Ocean Seafood Restaurant (2046 41st Ave W, Vancouver, BC V6M 1Y7). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Victor's life.
