Dan leaves Barbara, his loving wife of 52yrs. Daughter Deb Grandmaison son Don (Georgina) Wigman G.daughters Nicole (Trevor) Lohnes, Nancy Zuccaro, Andrea (Ryan) Massie, 9 great grandchildren. Cousin Terry (Pam) Shouchuk Relatives and friends in Alta & Sask.
Predeceased by father Peter 1965; mother Anne (Pacholko)1983; brother Anton (Tony)1996.
Dan arrived in BC at age 10. Studied music and played several instruments. Graduated VanTech 1955. Interests: Music, motor-cycle mechanics & racing; rugby, football, competition roller-skating; archery, firearms & fishing; Police Dog Trainer; Auxiliary RCMP; Served Royal Cdn Navy; Legion member 48yrs. Trade Qualified Refrig Journeyman. Several terms on UA Local 516 Refrigeration Workers Exec.Board; Elected Business Mgr. Fin.Sec't-Treas consecutive terms 1974-1993. Retired mid-term due to his health concerns.
Dan, with expert medical input from Dr. Ernie Ledgerwood, sanctioned by WCB, successfully negotiated mandatory use of SCBA to protect lives of Union members from the deadly CFC's used in Ref.Trade that had proved fatal over the years to Mech's & Apprentices in Canada and USA.
Dan was the drummer with 'Country Kings' in early 1960's. In 1967, he switched to playing bass after marrying drummer Barb Bayly. Their band 'Dan Shane & The Compatibles' played for over 30yrs at venues in BC. He enjoyed all the talented musicians he had the pleasure of playing music with & many became life-long friends. Dan was a generous, honest, giving and caring man – and a prolific jokester!
