Fred (Chun Chung) Wong, 86, of Burnaby, BC, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Toisan, China, on October 28, 1937, Fred immigrated to Canada in 1951 and dedicated his life to his family and community.
Fred married Leisa Wong in 1958, and together they built a loving family over the past 66 years. He is survived by his devoted wife, Leisa, and their three children: Victor Wong, Antony Wong (Valerie), and Teena Shinkawa (Ken). He was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Brayden, Aleisha, Kyle, Raelle, and Clarisse.
Fred will be remembered as a leader in the Vancouver Chinese community, serving as Past President and member of the Vancouver Chinatown Lions Club. He gave his time organizing Lions Club New Year's Eve celebrations, Miss Vancouver Chinatown Pageants, the 2001 Lions Club Spring Conference, and fundraising to improve healthcare in Vancouver.
An avid golfer, Fred enjoyed spending time on the course with friends and cherished ballroom dancing with his wife. He found immense joy in traveling to various destinations around the world. In his later years, he thrived on the time spent with his grandchildren, always ready to encourage, mentor, and share his wisdom.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, followed by a burial and reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Fred’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
