Our much beloved Chui Kam went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 15, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family. Loving mother to Silina (George), Jean, Shelley (Barry), Pearl (Herb) and Tony (Norah), grandmother to Terry (Julianna), Crystal (Mark), Normand, Wynn (Maggie), Caitlin (Jeff), Jonathon (Alyssa), Tamara (Mark), Ryan, Matthew and Nicole and great grandmother to Kassia, Karis, Chloe, Arabella, Kaeden, Alexis and Lennox. Loving sister to Chiu Lit Guan (Rui Qing Hu) and Kin Fun Kwan (Choi Ngan Kwan) and auntie to many nieces and nephews. Chui Kam was predeceased by her husband Jun Yuen, her parents Sung Mau Kwan and Mei Nui Kwan and by her brothers and sisters in China.
Born in the village of Chuan Kai Li (川溪里) in the Hoi Ping District (開平縣) of China and later immigrating to Canada in 1953, Chui Kam lived a full and blessed life that spanned two countries and four generations.
Together with her husband Jun Yuen, they entered into proprietorship of New Wayin Cafe at 291 E. Pender Street in Vancouver's Chinatown in 1955 for 19 years and continued from 1974 for another 7 years at 218 Keefer Street.
In 1981 they sold their business and retired so that they could both attend the Chinese Presbyterian Church along with their two youngest children, Pearl and Tony. While attending CPC, they were lovingly received by their brothers and sisters in Christ. They both subsequently accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and were baptized, giving their lives to serving God. At CPC, Chui Kam was involved in many activities including the Chinese Fellowship, Women’s Missionary Society, Bible Studies, Prayer Group, Ushering, and teaching Chinese cooking and pastry making. She and Jun Yuen faithfully attended each Sunday until the onset of the Covid pandemic and her health prevented her from doing so.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Thuy Nguyen and Dr. Roger Wong for looking after our mother’s care.
The Celebration of Life for Chui Kam will take place on Friday, November 17th in the Chapel at Ocean View Funeral Home at 1:00 pm. Our family invites you to join us for a tea reception and fellowship following interment. Viewing will be on Thursday, November 16th from 7:00-9:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Chui Kam Wong to the Chinese Presbyterian Church #100 - 6137 Cambie Street, Vancouver, BC V5Z 3B2.
