The Li Family is sad to announce the passing of our father, Chuan Tsai Li, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
He was born on June 10, 1937 as the 6th child to a family of 7 siblings in Banjarnegara (east of Jakarta), Indonesia. He left Indonesia, together with many of his high school graduates, to attend university in Beijing, China where he met his wife, Elaine, and where his two daughters Linda (husband Chung) and Jennie (husband Melvin) were born.
In 1974, he immigrated with the family to Vancouver for his daughters' education. He quickly learned English and found a position at Weiser Lock. Shortly afterwards, his entrepreneurship took over and he bought a grocery store, then started a wholesale business selling watches, toys and gift items (one of his first products was selling Rubik's Cube) and eventually opened up four locations of TimeCity selling retail watches on Robson Street and three other malls in Burnaby and Surrey. Dad's mind was always full of creative ideas.
Even though Dad worked hard, he always found time for his family and friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was so proud that all 5 of his grandchildren (Nicholas, Cody, Christopher, Catherine and David) went to, are attending or will attend the University of British Columbia. After Dad retired in 1997, he picked up golf and went golfing at Langara and Fraser View three to four times each week meeting many new friends. He has also stayed connected with his friends from China, Hong Kong and Singapore. Most recently, he spent time at the Lansdowne "Office" (aka food court) with his friends, as well as met new friends.
๐๐๐๐๐ We will miss your bright enthusiastic joy for life. Rest in peace. ๐๐๐๐๐
