Mrs Chiu Nuen Pang died peacefully in the Vancouver Hospice on Jan 29, 2018 at the age of 91.
Chiu is survived by her children: Peter Pang, Terry Pang, David Pang, Patrick Pang, Paulona Ho, Daniel Pang and Daisy Pang; children-in-law: Winnie Pang, Mable Pang, Anna Pang, Amy Pang, Patrick Ho and Ally Pang; grandchildren: Theresa Pang, Emily Pang, Justin Pang, Nikki Pang, Victor Pang, Eric Pang, Joanna Ho, Anita Ho, Doris Ho; grandson-in-law: Vince Au and great grand children: Branden Au and Audrey Au. She is preceded in death by her parent: Chin Cheung Ko and Yuk Ying Ko; and her husband: Wah Chiu Pang.
Chiu was born on Aug 26, 1926 in Canton, China. She graduated from elementary school but was unable to pursue more education due to the World War II. During this difficult time, she worked as a farmer to supplement family expenses.
She moved to Hong Kong in 1949 and worked as a seamstress. She visited her parents and sent money home regularly. In 1954, she married Mr. Wah Chiu Pang whom she met at the workplace. The couple welcomed 5 children to their home. She accepted her husband having a second wife, Siu Ching Yeung in 1959. They welcome 2 more children into the home. Her children remember her as a hard working, forgiving, happy and generous mother who inspired them to work hard, be joyful, kind and be helpful to others. The couple worked very hard and established the Heung Wing Garment Factory in 1960. She worked as the supervisor in the packing department while Siu stayed home to take care of 7 children. Her co-workers respected and liked her. This big family of ten got along harmoniously. Chiu immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1979 to take care of the children who pursued their post secondary school studies in BC. Husband delayed his immigration until 1988.
Chiu was accomplished at supervising others in the garment factory and was well liked and well respected by her co-workers. After immigration to Canada, she worked hard in learning English, enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren, cooking delicious food for her family and was passionate about gardening. She generously shared her abundant fresh harvest with her family, friends and neighbors. She is famous for her “green thumb”. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1981 and was baptized into Christ. She attended the Vancouver Chinese Pentecostal Church and enjoyed worship and fellowship there.
A funeral is scheduled for Feb 7, 2018 at 10 am at the Ocean View Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at the Come Along Seafood restaurant. Rev. Peter Choy will officiate the ceremony.
