Mr. Cheung Shing Chow

CheungShing attended a traditional Chinese private school 私塾 where he learned Chinese literature and poetry. He attended Chong Shi Middle School Macao 澳門崇實中學校 and was a member of the Boy Scout of China 中華民國童子軍. After the passing of his father and brother, CheungShing became the main provider for his family and moved to Hong Kong for work (following in his uncle’s footsteps). He initially did an apprenticeship as a dental technician before settling into an administrative assistant career with HSBC. He used to play miniature soccer in the 1950s with the bank’s team 𣾀豐虹聯小型足球隊. He had the opportunity of taking on different roles within the company and happily retired after 47 years with the bank.

Through a double date with his close bachelor friend (who became his brother-in-law later) he met his beloved wife WaiYin 慧賢. They got married in 1959 and had three sons, ChunSing, Kimmis, and Ronald. CheungShing became a Canadian immigrant in 1997, through family sponsorship and later became a Canadian citizen. Living in North Vancouver he and his wife would frequently bus to Chinatown and other areas in Vancouver to do daily activities and attend social gatherings. He enjoyed reading, calligraphy (Chinese and English), singing (Chinese opera and popular songs), and cherished the time spent with his family.

In 2007, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, but was still able to live with his family until a hip fracture in 2021 required him to move to a care home facility. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care given to CheungShing at St. Vincent's Langara residential care home.

CheungShing leaves to mourn his sons Kimmis (Wilma) and Ronald (Wendy), and granddaughters Chantelle (Neil), Hilda, and Syreeta. He will be resting with his wife and eldest son at Ocean View Cemetery in Burnaby.

We will miss you dad/grandpa. May you continue to watch over us.

There will be a Celebration of Life service in March 2023 (confirmation closer to the date).
