Brian was born 1951 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He, his parents, James and Sally Black, and his brother James moved to Canada when he was 5 years old. They eventually settled down in Victoria where he went to Landsdowne Junior High and then Vic High. Brian sang and played in many bands. Later, he moved to Vancouver and in 1979 he was the lead singer in the band "The Wet". Later on he was the lead singer in the band "Mango Dub". Susie met Brian one night at The Railway Club where they fell in love. Later on they moved in together and got married on August 6, 1988.
Brian worked at the courthouse for over 30 years. He was a Deputy District Registrar and a Justice of the Peace. He retired at 60 years old. They loved to travel to Washington State, and then travelled for many years to New Mexico and Colorado to attend Michael Martin Murphey's festivals and to spend time with family. They also travelled to Montreal and Edmonton to visit family. In the last few years, they travelled to Nevada almost every month. In 2015 Brian was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but that never stopped them from travelling and having great times with friends in Nevada. Unfortunately, when Covid hit, they stopped travelling. Brian loved music and listened to his favourite artists every day for hours. His last 12 days were spent in the hospital, with his wife Susie at his side, holding his hand while he listened to music for hours until his last breath on January 6. Susie was in disbelief and devastated.
Brian was predeceased by his parents; James and Sally Black, his sister-in-laws; Nye Lemay and Mary Murphey, his father-in-law; Rolland Maciukas, and many relatives in Scotland.
Brian will be lovingly remembered by his soul mate and wife of 33 years, Susie, his brother James and (Patricia), aunt and uncle Anne and Jake, mother in law, Mary, sister's in law, Carol, Ruth and (Dirk), Laurie, Patty and brother-in-law, John and his many relatives in Scotland, Montreal , Alberta and the USA.
