It is with regret that the family announces the passing of Barry Reed, after a long battle with kidney disease, on November 21st 2013 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver. Barry is fondly remembered by his brother Earl, his sister Joyce Shaw, brother-in-law Fred and his nephews Steven, Michael and Garry. Barry graduated from South Burnaby High School in 1957 and immediately launched his career in the grocery business, as owner and operator of Barry’s Market on Rumble Street in Burnaby. He continued his career in the grocery industry with Consolidated Grocers and eventually retired from Buy-Low Foods as Vice-President of Wholesale. After retirement, Barry continued his tireless work by volunteering with Meals on Wheels and St. Paul’s Hospital, particularly with the Healthy Heart and the Kidney Transplant Group. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and support staff of the renal department at St. Paul’s Hospital, for the respect and dignity that they showed Barry in the last few months. A celebration of his life followed by internment will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home Chapel, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby on Thursday November 28th, 2013 at 1.00pm.
