Angelo Pomponio

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of husband, father, and nonno, Angelo Pomponio. Angelo was born on November 9th, 1936 in Sant'Elia Fiume Rapido, Italy. He passed away peacefully on April 26th, in Vancouver, Canada, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

He is predeceased by his parents, Pietro and Gaetana; brothers Domenico (Maria), Luigi (Maria), Michele (Michelina), and Remo (Nancy). He is survived by his wife, Anna; children, Perry (Kim), Sandra, and Mario (Connie); cherished grandchildren, Sara, Matthew, Adam, Sofia, Erica, and Lorenzo; siblings, Teresa (Marino), Eduardo (Stella), Antonietta (Marino), Assunta (Rosato), Umberto (Liliana), and Aldina (Antonio); and many nieces, nephews and friends in British Columbia, Ontario and Italy.

Angelo was a man who believed in hard work and family values. He was a loyal and dedicated employee of Cusano Contracting for over 30 years. He loved to tell a joke and share a laugh. He always loved to see his grandkids and share a funny story with them. Angelo was passionate about gardening and his family and friends enjoyed eating the many vegetables he grew each year. He was happiest having everyone over for family dinners, which were often filled with jokes and laughter.

Angelo loved sharing memories with us, including stories about his early childhood in rural Italy, immigrating to Canada in 1957, and driving across the country to Vancouver in winter.

Playing bocce or a game of scopa were some of his other favourite pastimes, and they will never be the same without him. We will always remember his “strategies”, and promise to count cards (even though he never said he did) and load the bocce teams in our favour! Rest in peace, our dearest husband, father, and nonno. We will always love you, and cherish our memories together.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Bell Burnaby Funeral Home, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby, British Columbia on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, 5:30pm - 8:00pm, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis De Sales Parish, 6610 Balmoral Street, Burnaby, British Columbia on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 12:00pm.
