Yuriy is survived by his wife, Lioubomira Slobodian, two children Ulyana & Michael, two stepchildren Oksana & Bohdan, and grandchildren, Raphael, Mika, and Asher.
Yuriy will be remembered as a prominent artist, painter, and stained-glass designer. He studied art and graduated from the internationally renowned Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Art. He was a member of the Artists’ Guild in Ukraine as well as a member of the Chicago Artists’ Coalition. He had national exhibitions in the former Soviet Union, Ukraine, and abroad. His significant art works are on permanent display in museums throughout Ukraine, in Tretiakovskaya Gallery, and numerous private collections in Ukraine, Canada, Europe, and the United States. His last achievement was a certificate of recognition from the Ukrainian Art Center of Los Angeles, received August 19, 2022 – dedication to supporting Ukraine in the war relief effort and outstanding service in the preservation and promotion of Ukrainian art and culture.
Yuriy had a unique way of seeing the world and he spent his entire life sharing his vision and insights with those around him. He loved people and this love was best embodied through his art and its expressive forms, particularly the bold playful shapes he liked to work with so passionately. He selflessly devoted his life to his vocation and like all great artists he continued experimenting, searching for meaning and reaching for the transcendent.
Eternal memory to our loving husband, father, and grandfather. Although his flame has extinguished, he lives in our hearts and memories. Till we meet again…
A visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by funeral mass starting at 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Volodymyr Ukraine Orthodox Church, 4051 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90029.
