He was the son of Shelley Plenty Mitchell and Eleatha Agnes May Cleghorn. Norman was born at home on January 10, 1930 in Burbank, California. He remained a resident of the Burbank / Glendale area throughout his life.
Norman started working in a stable in his early teen years and then he worked for Gladding McBean in the quality control department. After his brother Leroy got the job at Columbia Wax Company, he encouraged Norman to work with him. And this started his career in formulating janitorial cleaning chemicals. He also worked for U.S. Borax and Alberto Culver--who bought Columbia Wax Company; Maintex Inc. & Bennett Industries for a short period of time; SaniChem, a division of National Sanitary Supply Company for over 35 years; and Georgia Pacific--who bought SaniChem.
Norman was a long-term member of the Burbank Foursquare Church.
One of Norman's most notable characteristics was his reliable and steadfast ability to watch over his family and co-workers. He was always concerned about their well-being.
He was married in 1948 to Wanda Evelyn Parker for 37 years, and they were blessed by 3 children: Deborah, Shelley, and Mary, all of whom survive him today. Although Wanda passed away in 1986, Norm met and married Maryley in 2002; she has been his devoted wife for more than 8 years.
In addition to 3 children, Norm is survived by his grand and great-grandchildren (Tanya, Tim, Joe, Melissa, Jon, Steven, Megan, Katelyn, Sydney, Madison, Gavin, Kyla, and Victoria).
Arrangements under the direction of Valley Funeral Home, Burbank, CA.
