Nga Thi Tran was born in Gò Công, Vietnam, in March 1938, the second oldest of ten children.
In 1970, Nga met Mui Duc Dao, a Correspondent and photojournalist for NBC News New York, Saigon Bureau, and both married in March 1971; they had a daughter Diem Chau Duc Dao, and a son Minh Duc Dao. Days before the end of the Vietnam war in April 1975, with the support of the United States government and NBC News, they immigrated to the United States with their children.
They lived in the Bronx, New York, for a couple of years before relocating to Burbank, California, in May 1977. After the death of her husband in March 1994, she continued to live in Burbank. By December 2010, she had saved enough money to buy her first home in Sun Valley, California.
On February 20, 2023, with her two children by her side, she passed away peacefully at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. Nga enjoyed gardening, planting and growing unique flowers, plants, and trees, cooking traditional Vietnamese meals, experimenting with new recipes, shopping for bargains, and giving her all to her husband, two children, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Nga was a loving wife and tiger mom, and she will be deeply missed by her children, family, and friends.
Let’s pray for her soul and spirit to be reunited with her husband, Mui, in the afterlife.
