Maxine was born in Parkersburg, Iowa on April 21, 1920, to James and Blanche McMahon. She grew up on a farm with her sister, Marian Francis (preceded in death in 1993). She married her high school sweetheart, Meryl Fay, in 1942. They moved to California in 1943 when Meryl got out of the Army after serving in Guadalcanal. He built their home in Burbank where they raised their family.
She was a loving mother to Steve (Carolyn), daughter Kathy and dear son (in-law) Rick. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was Grandma to Julie (Hale), Stephanie (Mike) and Tricia (Marc). Nonnie to Trevor, Blaine (Katie), Steven, Amanda (Andy), Allison, Melissa and Great-Grandma to Liesl (Joe), Ian, Olivia and Daniel.
When grandson Trevor was learning to speak he started calling her “Na Na”, which then turned into Nonnie. After that, all who met her called her Nonnie. Nonnie loved her family and she took great joy in spending time with them. While living with Kathy and Rick she became Nonnie to all of their friends and the boys’ friends. She loved them as if they were her own. Nonnie loved to cook and bake, her specialties were chicken and noodles with dumplings and chocolate pie. She also loved to embroider, sew and knit. She knitted blankets for all of her grandchildren when they were born and lovingly made slippers and gave them to the special people in her life.
She will never know the lasting impressions she left behind and the special relationships that were created with all those who love her. Nonnie's family would like to give thanks to the special friends and medical professionals that surrounded her in her time of need, especially Karen, Alondra and Nelson. Her last days in this world were made more comfortable because of your care.
