Leor was born in Israel on July 3, 1948. He later moved with his parents and older sister, Smadar, to Mexico City where his younger sister, Shelley, was born and where he attended high school. Upon graduation he returned to Israel where he served in the Israeli Army. After completion of his service, he moved to Connecticut to attend college and then moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970's where he first became involved with photography. During this time Leor married, had two children and started his own darkroom services business out of their home. Leor also went on to teach at Art Center in Pasadena for many years and continued mentoring students well after his retirement. He lived at the Brewery arts colony for the last decade of his life. Leor was a master printer by vocation, as well as an excellent photographer, who shied away from self-promotion in favor of technical mastery and artistic perfection. Leor's knowledge of photography and darkroom techniques was self-taught. It became his lifelong passion, which he continued throughout his last years of existence. He died peacefully and knowing that he was loved by his family, students, and community.
Leor was preceded in death by his sister, Smadar, and his father, Michael. He is survived by his mother Lia, sister Shelley, children Claire and Eitan, grandchildren Lucas and Garrett, niece Alana, nephew Jeremy, uncle Joe and several cousins.
Arrangements for a celebration of his life are pending and will be announced at a later date.
