James William Coad passed away peacefully on September 8, 2014. He was born august 01,1916 in Salt Lake City Utah. After losing his father at an early age, the family moved to Los Angeles where he attended the local schools and graduated from Fremont high school. After high school he worked for Brunswick wholesale drug company as a lab technician and that is where he met Mabel Adele Lyall. When wwII broke out he enlisted in the navy and was assigned as a pharmacy mate on the uss solace. Prior to leaving overseas, he married the love of his life Mabel in Los Angeles on September 5, 1942.
After a brief honeymoon, he left for Pearl Harbor to meet up with his ship. As a pharmacy mate 2nd class he attended to all the wounded in all the major battles in the pacific. Jim witnessed the raising of the flag on iwo Jima. After the war Jim worked for the Southern California gas company working his way up from a field employee to a divisional engineer where he retired in 1983. Mabel and Jim enjoyed a fruitful retirement until Mabel's passing in 2002. A few years later, Jim came back to the Masonic lodge and enjoyed the fellowship of his brothers. Jim was a mason for over 50 years and past president of the Southern California gas company masons.
He was truly a patriotic American and will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.
