Howard was born in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota in 1933 to the Laughlin and Velma Doyle. He served in the Navy in San Diego, CA where he met Sally Matheson. They were married in Burbank in 1957. They then moved to North Dakota, where he rejoined Great Northern Railroad for a total of nine years.
They moved back to California in 1961 where he eventually got a job with Flying Tiger Line. He retired from FedEx, which had bought Flying Tigers. In his retirement he was a beloved engineer for many years at Travel Town in Griffith Park.
Howard was also very active in St. Finbar Catholic Church. He volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister for the sick and as an Usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Locklyn, Edward, and Daryl, and his infant sister, Marilyn.
Howard is survived by his wife, Sally, daughters Susan and Mary, grandson, Michael (Susan). He is also survived by his brother, Larry, and sister-in-law Margaret, and sister-in-law, Linda (Daryl) as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday morning, September 24, at St. Finbar Catholic Church.
